Julie Waters, Technical Assistance Trainer with The LOOP
On Wednesday September 14, 2016, LOOP Technical Assistance Trainer Julie Waters delivered a presentation to the Kings County Tobacco Coalition. Her presentation, entitled “Smokefree Communities: Opportunities for Smokefree Housing in your own Backyard,” provided information on the importance of local policy adoption and steps to successful policy adoption. Participants learned how to identify a champion, how to prepare advocates, negotiate with opposition and how to work with local governments to ensure implementation after a policy is passed. The meeting was attended by approximately 30 coalition members who contributed to a very valuable Q&A session after Julie’s presentation.
“The presentation provided by Julie was extremely helpful as all local lead agencies in attendance are working on policies in the Central Valley. Several LLA staff are new Tobacco Control and Julie provided a well-rounded presentation on the importance of policy adoption and how to effectively strategize to accomplish program objectives.”
