ASH Request for Information: Tobacco Industry interference

Request for Information

Action on Smoking & Health (ASH) needs your help to collect data on U.S. tobacco industry interference. Extensive research conducted by many organizations has shown that tobacco industry interference is the greatest obstacle to enacting effective tobacco control laws. However, documenting and raising awareness of tobacco industry interference like ASH has done in our U.S. Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2020can leverage public opinion to help advance effective tobacco control policies and defeat proactive legislation sought by the tobacco industry. ASH is asking state and local advocates to submit examples (specifically occurrences between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020) to include in our 2021 U.S. Tobacco Industry Interference Index (if you have more recent 2021 examples please submit those as well). Examples of past state tobacco industry interference submissions can be found in our 2019 Index and 2020 Index reports under State Spotlights.

What we need:

  • Year of occurrence
  • Name of the state/locality
  • Description of the occurrence
  • Links to any relevant online news or public records (if available)

Please submit your stories to tistories@lists.ash.org or contact Nichelle Gray grayn@ash.org with any questions.
