The Latino Coordinating Center (LCC) for a Tobacco-Free California
The Latino Coordinating Center (LCC) for a Tobacco-Free California, a statewide program of the California Health Collaborative in partnership with the University of Southern California, is dedicated to improving the health of Latino communities across California.
The mission of the LCC is to improve the overall health of Latinos in California by reducing commercial tobacco-related disparities by driving systemic change through policy adoption and implementation, statewide collaboration, and community empowerment
The LCC provides vital support to partners and communities through:
- Developing and sharing evidence-based policy recommendations
- Engaging elected officials through educational outreach and community advocacy
- Offering translation services for educational materials to address language barriers
- Delivering leadership development and training opportunities
- Building the capacity of Latino tobacco prevention advocates statewide
- Identifying and addressing gaps in culturally tailored educational resources

To address the rising trend of nicotine pouch use among youth, the LCC recently developed an educational resource for parents and adults working with youth. This material provides critical information about oral nicotine products, their risks, and how this is a concern for the Latino community.

At the core of their work is the LCC Policy Platform, a guidebook designed to help partners, stakeholders, and community members effectively engage Latino communities in tobacco prevention. The platform offers culturally responsive strategies and evidence-based approaches to policy change, ensuring partners have the tools they need to create lasting impact.
The LCC also facilitates the Latino Commercial Tobacco Cessation Workgroup, a quarterly initiative that convenes both traditional and non-traditional partners in tobacco prevention. These 50-minute sessions feature expert presentations, group updates, and open discussions that deepen knowledge of cessation practices tailored to the Latino community.
