Now Available: PETS Flavored Tobacco Policy Resources And Policy Brief
The Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights (ANR) Foundation has three new Policy Evaluation Tracking System (PETS) materials available to support local education and policy efforts.
The Matrix of Policies Regulating the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products provides an overview of key policy provisions in the municipalities that have enacted ordinances that regulate the sale of flavored tobacco. The matrix provides details on the 98 California municipalities in the PETS database that have policies regulating the sale of flavored tobacco products in some manner, of which 58 prohibit the sale of all flavors of all tobacco products, including menthol, at all venues; and another 6 prohibit the sale of all flavors of all tobacco products, including menthol, except at adult-only/specialty retailers.
The List of Municipalities Regulating the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products is a shorter companion piece that includes the enactment year for each jurisdiction’s flavored tobacco policy. This list includes more recently enacted flavors policies that are not yet represented in the PETS Database.
ANR Foundation will be producing an annual policy brief highlighting local policy trends on the four PETS topic areas: Comprehensive Secondhand Smoke, Smokefree Multi-Unit Housing, Comprehensive Tobacco Retail Sales, and Flavored Tobacco. The first brief is now available and is titled Overview of California Tobacco Control Policy Trends in PETS Database: September 2021.
As a reminder, the policy data on PETS is current through March 31, 2021. More recently enacted or amended policies may not yet be in the PETS database and are not reflected in the Flavors Matrix and Policy Brief.
