Truth Initiative Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program

The Truth Initiative Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program is offering grants of up to $20,000 to colleges and universities to support the adoption and implementation of a 100% tobacco/vape-free policy. Student engagement is the heart of the grant. Grantees of the Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program will select two-four student leaders to create events and activities to educate and engage the campus community about the need for a 100% tobacco/vape-free campus policy. Additional grant elements focus on assessment, cessation, and policy change. Grantees will receive guidance through webinars, in-person training, one-on-one consultations and evidence-based cessation programs. Students working as part of this grant will gain leadership, program planning, and policy skills.

Since 2015, the Truth Initiative Tobacco/Vape-Free College Program has provided grants to more than 200 colleges and college systems. With 99% of smokers starting by age 26, college campuses are critical to preventing young adults from starting tobacco use, aiding current smokers in quitting and reducing exposure to secondhand smoke for all. A tobacco/vape-free policy is a critical component of an overall plan to promote campus health and well-being. More than 2,600 colleges have a 100% smoke or tobacco-free policy.

Colleges that have smoke- or tobacco-free policies that do not include e-cigarettes may still apply. To combat the vaping public health crisis, Truth Initiative is offering grants of up to $10,000 to colleges to strengthen their 100% smoke or tobacco-free policies by adding e-cigarettes.

The list of eligible colleges can be found here.
