ALAC, Los Angeles Office (Smokefree LA)

About This Partner/Organization

The goal of the Smokefree LA project with the American Lung Association in California is

to eliminate a number of tobacco-related disparities within the community, with a primary

focus on Latinos and people of low socioeconomic status, both of whom are impacted by

high rates of tobacco use and disproportionate exposure to secondhand smoke. Together

with residents in the southeastern communities of Los Angeles County, the project will

work towards the reduction of exposure of secondhand smoke through the passage of

policies prohibiting smoking and use of electronic nicotine delivery devices in outdoor

recreational public areas such as parks. In addition, the project will work towards the

adoption of a smokefree multi-unit housing policy to protect residents from drifting

secondhand smoke in their homes.
