ALAC, San Diego (Tobacco Free Communities)

The goals of the American Lung Association in CA Tobacco-Free Communities Project

(San Diego County) are to eliminate tobacco-related disparities associated with (1) use of

or exposure to e-cigarette aerosols where smoking is prohibited; (2) use of or exposure to

secondhand smoke and e-cigarette aerosols in outdoor dining and bar areas; and, (3)

exposure to secondhand smoke in 100% of contiguous units of apartments and

condominiums, including common areas, balconies and patios. All project activities will be

carried out in communities with significant populations of Hispanic, African-American or

low income residents. Specifically, e-cigarette policies will be adopted by 3 of 4 South

County cities (Lemon Grove, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista or National City); a smoke-free

outdoor dining policy (including e-cigarettes) will be adopted by the County of San Diego;

and, a smoke-free MUH policy will be adopted by 2 of 3 South County cities (Chula Vista,

Imperial Beach or National City).
