ALACA, Chico Office (Health Equity - CHICO)

About This Partner/Organization

The ALAC Chico Health Equity Project goal is to eliminate a number of tobacco-related disparities within the community, with a primary focus on rural and people of low socioeconomic status, both of whom are impacted by high rates of tobacco use and disproportionate exposure to secondhand smoke. The project will work with Chico city park department administrative staff and Chico Recreation and Park District administrative staff to institute a comprehensive smoke–free parks policy implementation plan. The project will also work towards the reduction of exposure of secondhand smoke, tobacco waste, and tobacco use through the passage of policies prohibiting smoking and use of electronic nicotine delivery devices in outdoor recreational public areas in Oroville. In addition, the project will work towards the adoption of a tobacco retailer licensing policy to reduce youth access to tobacco products in the Town of Paradise. This policy will help keep tobacco out of the hands of children and increase the likelihood of never developing a lifelong addiction tobacco.
