Alameda County Health Care Services Agency - Public Health Department

About This Partner/Organization

The Alameda County Public Health Department-Tobacco Control Program and La Clinica de la Raza will partner to implement a tobacco-control focused policy project. La Clinica de la Raza’s high-school aged Youth Health Leaders will assume a leadership role in community education activities, social and other media engagement, policy activities, and technical assistance activities along with Alameda County Tobacco Control Program staff.

The project will research the availability of flavored tobacco products and single packages of cigarillos in Oakland and will provide community education to youth, adults and decision-makers regarding the results of research and possible policy responses if appropriate. The project will also research the extent of tobacco litter in one city in Alameda County and will also provide community education to youth, adults and decision-makers regarding the results of research and possible policy responses if appropriate. Finally, the project will develop a toolkit that will be disseminated among low-income communities of color who are inequitably burdened by tobacco-related disease and death. The toolkit will provide local facts on tobacco as well as guidance on how local policies are developed and enacted as well as how community residents can take a more active role in sharing their voice in local policy decision-making.
