Alpine County (Alpine County Tobacco Control Program)
About This Partner/Organization
Alpine County’s geography spans the Sierra Nevada mountain range between Lake
Tahoe and Yosemite. The population is approximately 1,115 – the smallest of all
California counties. The Tobacco Control Program (TCP) has three objectives to best
serve this unique community through the 2017-21 contract period:
1. To reduce the availability of tobacco by eliminating the sale of flavored tobacco
products and electronic smoking devices.
2. To reduce exposure to secondhand smoke in indoor and outdoor areas by including
tobacco control elements in general plans, building codes, permitting process, and zoning
requirements.
3. To promote tobacco cessation by establishing tobacco use assessment and cessation
referral and treatment services in the local public and behavioral health clinics.
4. To create five new partnerships with organizations serving or addressing low income,
rural, youth, and American Indian organizations as evidenced by one or more of the
following: integration of tobacco use prevention and cessation messaging and educational
activities into the organizations’ practices.
