Breathe California of the Bay Area (CommUNITY)

About This Partner/Organization

The CommUNITY project primarily addresses the following priority population(s) of focus: African American, Asian men (particularly Vietnamese and Korean), and low SES (mostly Hispanic/Latino), and rural residents. This project will primarily work in the following geographical communities: Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. Santa Clara County at 1.8 million residents is the sixth largest county in California and its government seat is in San Jose, the nation's tenth largest city. Almost exclusively urban, 95% of its residents live in cities. At the opposite extreme is San Benito County, the rural neighbor to the south. The majority of its 57,600 residents are Hispanic/Latino at 57.9%. With only two cities, Hollister of 36,589 residents, and tiny San Juan Bautista of only 1,922 (all from US Census 2013 estimates), 33% of its residents live in rural areas.
