Butte County (Butte County Public Health Department-Tobacco Education Program)

About This Partner/Organization

The purpose of the 2017-2021 Butte County Tobacco Education Program is to implement

measures aimed at reducing youth uptake of tobacco use by educating the community

about the need for tobacco retailer licensing that includes restrictions on menthol/flavored

tobacco, due to it's appeal to youth. We are also committed to reducing exposure to

secondhand smoke by assisting the Housing Authority of Butte County with

implementation of the HUD smoke-free housing rule, and by encouraging HUD and other

affordable and market-rate housing agencies to adopt the same smoke-free policy with

other properties they own. Lastly, we resolve to build capacity for tobacco prevention by

increasing the diversity of our coalition membership so that priority populations, who are

disproportionately affected by tobacco use, are better able to prevent and reduce tobacco

use in their communities.
