FAME (Achieving Tobacco-Related Health Equity Among California's Diverse Populations)

About This Partner/Organization

For the past 20 years FAME Corporations has been a community leader and partner in addressing social, economic, and health inequalities affecting low-income, underserved communities in Los Angeles. FAME Corporations has made huge strides in effort to combat the exposure to unwanted, drifting secondhand tobacco smoke in multi-unit housing. In Fall 2014, FAME’s tobacco team successfully managed the adoption of Culver City’s smoke-free housing ordinance after four years of community education and engagement. FAME’s main focus is to reduce the exposure of drifting, unwanted secondhand smoke in multi-unit housing complexes, specifically in low-income neighborhoods with Latino and African-American communities. This work will be concentrated in the cities of Paramount, Bellflower, Carson, and Hawthorne.

FAME will be working to promote smoke-free living by offering a wide range of support through both programmatic activity as well as training and technical assistance including but not limited to the following: conducting public opinion surveys, providing community presentations, awareness building through community recruitment as well as recruitment and training of key community leaders, and highlighting success stories and share tenant experiences with local media outlets. Expected outcomes include increasing the number of people with improved access to smoke-free and tobacco-free environments.
