Imperial County (Imperial County Tobacco Education Project)
About This Partner/Organization
The Imperial County Tobacco Education Project promotes a tobacco-free community
through education efforts and intervention activities for teens and adults. It takes a
proactive approach to combat the tobacco industry’s influence in Imperial County, utilizing
local media such as radio, television and print newspaper to share information with the
community. It also strives to restrict youth access to tobacco products by working with
local policy leaders and merchants throughout the area which includes eleven cities:
Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Heber, Holtville, Imperial, Niland, Ocotillo,
Seeley, and Westmorland. The objectives, for the 2017-2021 plan, will focus on the
adoption of a tobacco retail licensing policy that includes electronic nicotine delivery
devices, increasing coalition membership diversity, and adopting and implementing a
voluntary smoke-free campus policy in at least 1 healthcare and/or assisted living facility.
