La Familia (El Chante's Change to be Tobacco Free)

El Chante is a 20-bed residential facility located in Oakland, California and has been

serving individuals in Alameda County for over 30-years, but has been doing so as a part

of La Familia since January of 2015. El Chante is a unique program that is located in an

urban housing area that truly creates a home-like environment for clients when they come

to address their substance use abuse and dependency issues. El Chante is a bilingual

and multicultural program and has shined in the ability to provide staffing structure that

allows clients to enter treatment, even when they are monolingual spanish speakers. By

engaging in the Tobacco Free for Recovery project, staff aim to gain more tools that will

help clients make the choice to abstain from tobacco products not just while in treatment

but permanently. This project will facilitate tobacco cessation classes, client education,

and develop an environment that supports the importance of adapting a tobacco free

lifestyle.
