Marin County (Marin County Tobacco Related Disease Control Program)
About This Partner/Organization
The Marin County Tobacco Related Disease Control Program will work closely with
Smoke-Free Marin Coalition to provide leadership and coordination in tobacco issues that
will address 5 objectives in their 2017-2021 work plan: (1) By 2021 all jurisdictions in
Marin County will adopt or amend a comprehensive secondhand smoke policy that will
include: 100% smoke-free multi-unit housing (MUH) including 100%smoke-free balconies,
patios and outdoor common areas, smoke-free outdoor dining/bar areas, smoke-free
doorways, and e-cigarettes use restrictions; (2) At least 4 jurisdictions in Marin County,
such as San Anselmo, Larkspur Corte Madera or Fairfax will adopt or amend existing
policies that establish mandatory licensing for all retail tobacco outlets, which may include
provisions prohibiting the sale of any tobacco products in all pharmacies and/or
eliminating the sale and distribution of individual or small unit packages of tobacco; (3) At
least one Marin Jurisdiction (e.g. San Anselmo, Larkspur, San Rafael) and/or the County
of Marin will adopt a policy that requires that no more than 15 percent of the total square
footage of windows and clear (e.g. glass) doors of an alcohol/tobacco retailer may have
advertising of any sort including tobacco. This third objective will highlight the active
collaboration with the Tobacco, Nutrition and Alcohol Coalitions as they promote the
Healthy Stores for a Healthy Community Campaign; (4) Cessation support and referral
services will be provided to behavioral health and underserved residents of Marin; and (5)
Marin youth will be recruited and trained as youth leaders, advocates and spokespersons
to assist in implementing program activities and advance tobacco control efforts.
