Mariposa County (Mariposa County Tobacco Education Program)

Mariposa County is a rural and sparsely populated county. Its 17,341 residents are

dispersed over 1,463 square miles, there are no incorporated cities, and nearly half the

area is publicly owned federal lands. The county seat and population center is the

unincorporated town of Mariposa. As with many rural areas, California Tobacco Control

Program data shows the prevalence of tobacco use among both the youth and adult

population in Mariposa County has historically been above the state average.
