People's CORE (Healthy Lungs at Home)

About This Partner/Organization

People’s Community Organization for Reform and Empowerment (People’s CORE) advances community health through public health education and community engagement and mobilization to address tobacco-related health disparities. Through the Healthy Lungs at Home Project, People’s CORE works with the following priority populations of focus: Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and low socioeconomic status populations. This project primarily works in the following geographical communities: Los Angeles County

(particularly Central and Northeast Los Angeles, the city of Artesia, the city of Hawaiian Gardens, and the city of Gardena). The Healthy Lungs at Home Project involves various approaches in addressing exposure to secondhand smoke, tobacco smoke residue, tobacco waste, and other tobacco products. The first approach works towards increasing household smoking bans and reducing secondhand smoke through the smoke-free homes intervention. The second approach involves the adoption and implementation of policies that alleviate secondhand smoke exposure in multi-unit housing complexes to address the issue of drifting smoke.
