Rincon Band (Rincon Band)

Through its Páavivat: Rincon Tribal Tobacco Awareness Project, the Rincon Band of

Luiseño Indians seeks to develop and implement policies for tobacco and nicotine use

cessation as well as restriction of use in public spaces, while educating and engaging

Rincon Band members and their families as participants in prevention and

tobacco/nicotine-free initiatives, including the formation of a Tribal Youth coalition that will

support outreach to Band youth. With this tobacco control and education program, the

Rincon Band anticipates community engagement in the prevention of tobacco and nicotine

abuse or, for those currently addicted, be encouraged to take advantage of existing

treatment programs, resulting in a Reservation-wide decrease in tobacco and nicotine

abuse.
