San Dieguito Alliance (Smokefree San Dieguito, Way to Be)

Over the next 5 years July 2020 – June 2025, San Dieguito for Drug Free Youth will

advance the THREE Objectives of "Smoke Free San Dieguito" project, which are to have

at least 2 or more of 4 cities within the San Dieguito region (Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas,

Solana Beach) adopt legislative policies, for 1) Smokefree and vaping free Multi Unit

Housing (MUH) complexes; 2) Tobacco Retailers Licensure (TRL); and 3) Ban of

Electronic Nicotine Delivery Devices (ENDDS), utilizing public health intervention and

evaluation activities of 1) Community organization and education; 2) Media engagement in

the value of these Objectives; 3) Training of City Councils and Staff in the adopting and

implementation of these policies.; 4) Assessments of community members interest in

these policies and readiness to advocate for them; and 5) Real time experience with the

problems for youth and families who need clean air where they live; reduction of access

and exposure to tobacco and vaping products in their neighborhoods, and removal of the

toxic products associated with vaping from their cities; with special attention to the

targeted populations of Spanish, Asian, and low income.
