Solano County (Tobacco Prevention and Education Program)

About This Partner/Organization

The Solano County Tobacco Prevention and Education Program will provide leadership

on tobacco prevention issues that will address the following 6 objectives in their 2017-21

work plan: (1) create new partnerships with at least 8 organizations, each of which

addresses a social issue that is a factor in tobacco-related determinants of health and that

will embrace the prevention of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs); (2) support the

City of Dixon to adopt and implement a policy (e.g. conditional use or zoning) to prohibit

the location and/or density of tobacco retail outlets within 1,000 feet of schools, parks,

youth facilities, residential areas and within 1,000 feet of another tobacco retailer; (3) work

with the eight jurisdictions in Solano County to update the definition of smoking, in all

applicable ordinances, to include the burning or heating of tobacco products, other plant

products and other natural or synthetic products. Also, where applicable, the definition of

tobacco products will be updated to be consistent with the State’s definition; (4) support

the city of Suisun City and one other city to establish a Youth Coalition to act as youth

leaders, advocates and spokespersons to advance tobacco control efforts; (5) identify and

assist one city to adopt policy that prohibits the sale and distribution of all flavored tobacco

products including mentholated cigarettes; and (6) determine and assist one city to adopt

a policy designating 100% of individual units (including balconies and patios) in multi-unit

housing (MUH) complexes as smoke-free units, including areas at least 30 feet from

doors, windows, patios and balconies.
