The URSA Institute (The Buffer Zone)

The Buffer Zone The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council will work with

three jurisdictions in the state of California to adopt and implement public policies that

eliminates the sale and distribution of mentholated cigarettes, other flavored tobacco

products, and electronic nicotine delivery device products within a 500-1000 foot perimeter

of schools. The creation of this "Buffer Zone" will reduce youth access to these starter

tobacco products and create positive community norm change. The project will provide

technical assistance to other projects working on menthol and other flavored tobacco

products. We will also collaborate with African American organizations to develop and

implement a comprehensive grassroots African American tobacco control platform
