United Indian Health (NATIVE Tobacco Project)

About This Partner/Organization

For nearly 50 years, United Indian Health Services (UIHS) has been a state and national

model for planning and delivering quality health care to American Indian people

throughout northwestern California. UIHS provides medical, dental, behavioral health,

nutrition, traditional health, outreach, and health and wellness services for the American

Indian communities of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties (excluding the Hoopa

Reservation). UIHS’ mission states that we are “committed to working together with our

clients and community to achieve wellness through health services that reflect the

traditional values of our American Indian Community.” This project develops creative,

innovative, culturally appropriate, and cost effective interventions that result in community

and social norm changes. The NATIVE Tobacco Project has been a leader in tobacco

prevention work since 1991.
